Obituary for Debra A. Charter (Eurto)

Debra A. Charter, 62, of Norfolk, passed away on Saturday February 23, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed in peace.

Debbie was born on March 30, 1956 in Massena NY to Robert and Rose Eurto (Davey). She graduated Norwood Norfolk High School and earned her Associates Degree at Canton ATC.
She met her true and only love of her life, Melvin Charter, when they were just teenagers, and they wed in Manchester NH on November 18, 1977. They were inseparable soul mates, kindred spirits, and lovers of life together. They never needed anything if they had each other. They lived on laughter and love and cherished every moment they spent in their 47+ years side by side. Together they welcomed a son, Jason A. Charter, and a daughter Nina M. Bovay, and their world was wonderfully complete.

Debbie enjoyed all music, dancing and singing. She always loved the time she spent singing with her daughter in the Potsdam Community Chorus. She was a beautiful pianist and truly gifted artist. She was never more at home than when she was at the ocean with Mel and her kids. It spoke to her spirit and brought her peace. More than anything she loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. Mel was the other half of her heart, and her children, and grandchildren were her sunshine, her smiles, her beautiful blessings.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband, Melvin A. Charter of Norfolk, her best friend and daughter Nina and Chad Bovay of Massena, her sweet mother Rose Eurto of Norfolk, her beautiful grandchildren Khelsey, Jada, Ashton, and Ariel Charter all of Norfolk, and Evan Bovay of Massena. She is also survived by her brothers Paul and Betsey Eurto of Norfolk, James and Pam Eurto of Tucson AZ, Richard Eurto of Norwood, and Russell Eurto of Malone, and her sisters Sharron and Brian Buder of Cobleskill, and Lori and James Doran of Norwood, and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Debbie was predeceased by her son, Jason A. Charter, and her father Robert Eurto.

Per her wishes there will be no services. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring to honor and remember Debbie and Jason.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Hope Lodge, in Burlington VT. A special thank you to all at Hope Lodge and UVMC that treated her with such kindness and compassionate care during her long fight, and in her final moments. You were a blessing to her and the family, and to all you serve.
