MASSENA - Amedeo "Hag" Cappione of 148 River Drive, Massena died Sunday, March 17, 2019 at his winter home in Winter Haven, Florida after a short illness.
Hag was born in Massena on March 8, 1930 to Philomena and Amedeo Cappione. He was the 6th of 9 children and is survived by his sister, Loretta "Wellaā€¯ Opalka, his brothers, Sam (Lena), Francis "Bucky" and Joseph (Sally) Cappione.
He graduated from Massena High School in 1948, attended Manlius Military Academy and St. Bonaventure College where he played football. He enlisted in the Army and fought in the Korean Conflict.
Hag owned and operated many businesses in the Massena area and was a long-time member of the Italian-American Club and Massena Country Club. Hag loved golf and was proud to have hit a hole-in-one 7 times.
In addition to his brothers and sister, Hag is survived by his wife Susan; his son, Amedeo (Jennifer) and his granddaughter, Tessa. He was loved also by his step daughters Allie Magnanti and Amanda (Matt) Cummings; six step grandchildren and three great granddaughters; and many neices and nephews.
Hag will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye, his devilish grin, his eternal optimism and his love of family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 24, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. His family will receive callers from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass.
