MALONE - Heaven gained a precious angel on August 23, 2016 when Linda A. Porter, daughter of the late Clarence and Lucy Dow Porter gained her wings.
Born January 12, 1949 in Norfolk, NY as a Down Syndrome child, she had a beautiful life. At age 11 Linda joined the Bagg’s Home, Edmenston, New York for several years, spending winters in Florida and summers in the home. When Rachel Baggs became ill, Linda was moved to the home of Louise Beech, Malone, New York. When Linda could no longer climb stairs she was moved to Constable A ICF in January 2011. She attended the North Franklin Day Habilitation Program. Linda brought much joy to the staff and her housemates at Constable A and within her Day Hab program.
She will be remembered in so many ways. Linda loved ice cream, wearing sunglasses; she had so many pairs, perusing magazines, getting her nails and hair done, attending birthday parties and singing happy birthday, carrying her pocketbook and sharing the reports of a day well done. Linda also loved babies, she liked to spend time in the garden and loved to sit in the office and talk to the office staff. During these times, she would look at magazines and show the staff the pictures she liked. Linda also enjoyed looking at her photo albums and enjoyed spending time looking at her family and pictures of the past.
Linda will be missed by her 11 housemates who shared in her life and home, and the many dedicated staff and Citizen Advocates that loved and supported her. She will also be missed by her siblings, David and Regina Porter of Parishville, NY; Diane and Al Negrin of Sydney Center, NY; Nancy Porter of Fulton, NY; and Diette Porter of Hiram, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert, Melvin, Otis, Stanley, Ida, William, Bruce, Clair and Keith passed before her.
There will be a private burial in the North Lawrence Cemetery.
We would like to thank all of Linda’s caregivers and extended family for the love and compassion she received while in their care.
