HUBERT J. ROURKE

AKWESASNE – After a lengthy illness, Mr. Hubert J. “Hubie” Rourke, 59, of 286 St. Regis Road, passed into the Spirit World on Tuesday afternoon, January 3, 2017 at Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Hubie was born May 12, 1957 in Massena, the son of the Barney J. and the late Viola (Cook) Rourke. He was a 1975 graduate of Salmon River Central School and took a year of courses at Plattsburgh State University. On September 4, 1982, he married Veronica “Binky” King at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Egan, officiating.

Hubie first worked as an ironworker starting with Local #711 in Montreal before transferring to Local #440 in Utica, leaving after 15 years of service. For the next 26 years, he was a maintenance mechanic at National Grid in Potsdam. Hubie was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid sports enthusiast and would have been found on a golf course or ball field most of the time. He also enjoyed taking care of his, his neighbors, family, and friends lawns, working on cars, and going to the casino. Perhaps his great enjoyment was the precious time his spent with his family and web-chatting with his grandson.

Hubie is survived by his loving wife, Binky; his sons, Mark Rourke and his wife, Kim of Milton, Florida; Michael Rourke and his companion, Tyler Diabo of Akwesasne; and Brett Rourke of Akwesasne; his grandson, Easton Rourke; his father, Barney Rourke; his sisters, Cynthia Sawatis, Marsha White, Sandra Rourke and Eileen Rourke and her companion, John McComber; his brothers, Larry and Tassie Rourke and Steven “Judgie” and Shelly Rourke; his mother-in-law, Marjorie King; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Leslee Ann Rourke at birth; his mother, Viola on July 15, 2014; his sister, Evelyn M. Rourke on July 3, 2004; and his father-in-law, Simon King on April 26, 2011.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Mondayat 2:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. John L. Downs officiating.
