LAURA MOORE
POTSDAM - Mrs. Laura Moore, 86, of May Road, peacefully passed away Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2017 at her home after failing health.
Laura was born March 22, 1930 in Potsdam, daughter of the late Arthur James and Blanche Elizabeth Haywood Lloyd. She graduated from Potsdam High School in 1947. On June 6, 1953, she married Robert W. Moore at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Norwood. Robert predeceased her on December 3, 2016.
Laura was a secretary at Potsdam Central School for 21 years, retiring in 1985. Laura was active with the Potsdam Hospital Guild and volunteered in their gift shoppe for 25 years, retiring in 2010. She was an avid knitter making sweaters for the gift shoppe to sell. She, along with her husband Robert, also owned and operated Rainbow Antiques for many years. As antique dealers, they traveled extensively to different shows and flea markets. She was a member of the Vega Chapter #98 Order of Eastern Star where she served as Past Matron. Laura was also was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and their Women’s Guild, and was active in the church choir, an Acolyte and Chalice Server. She and Bob enjoyed many winters in Punta Gorda, Florida and attended the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Laura is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Walter Clark of Florida; her granddaughter, Danielle Clark of Boston; her niece and nephew, Kathleen F. and Steve Warr and John and Carol Fries, all of Potsdam; many great nieces and great nephews; and her dedicated caregivers.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Laura was predeceased by her son, Robert Lloyd Moore on August 17, 1983; and by her brother Cyrus J. Fries in 2002.
A memorial service celebrating Laura’s life will be held Monday, January 23rd at 11:00 AM at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Norwood with Mother Kathryn Boswell, officiating. Friends may call starting at 9:30 AM prior to the service in the parish hall of the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Canton in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider the Trinity Church Choir Music Fund or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley in Laura’s memory.
