Obituary for Marilyn E. Empey (Gilbo)


MASSENA – After a lengthy illness, Mrs. Marilyn E. Empey,68,of 5 Depot Street, passed away Monday evening, February 6, 2017 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since February 3rd.

Marilyn was born August 30, 1948 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Robert and Dolores Dibble Gilbo. She attended schools in Potsdam, Indian Lake,and Peru. A marriage to Gerald Soucia ended in divorce. She later married Frank Empey, who predeceased her.

Marilyn was a homemaker. At one time she tended bar and worked for a short time at Alice Hyde Hospital in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed playing bingo, gambling, doing search-a-word puzzles, listening to country music and when she was able she enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Marilyn is survived by her longtime companion, Victor Hickey; her children, Dolores, Gerald, and Tina Souchia, all of Breakabeen, New York; several grandchildren; her sister, Cynthia (Harold) Stark of Fort Jackson; her brothers, Robert Gilbo of Hopkinton; David Gilbo of Wythisville, Virginia; Bruce Gilbo; Jeffrey and Dale Gilbo of Sodus Point; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held in the spring at a time to be announced. Burial will be held privately in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans
