Obituary for Anthony "John" McDonald

Anthony "John" McDonald
ANTHONY JOHN McDonald

AKWESASNE- Anthony John McDonald, 53, of 290 McDonald Road, Snye, unexpectedly passed away Monday morning, February 13, 2017 at the Cornwall Community Hospital.

John was born September 24, 1963 in Malone, son of Rita Sunday and the late Wilbert P. McDonald. He graduated from Salmon River Central School, and received a certificate for Small Appliance Repair from Midwest Technical Institute in Peoria, Illinois

John was owner and operator of Akwesasne Appliance Doctor. At one time, he worked for Mohawk Council Ambulance, Mohawk Plumbing and was an apprentice with Ironworkers Local 401 Philadelphia. John also was a Conservation Mentor for fishing in Nova Scotia.

He was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church, and a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group and a former member of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.

John loved the outdoors, thoroughly enjoying hunting, trapping and fishing. Fishing was his greatest passion, he dove for sea urchins in Nova Scotia and fished for many types of fish in California. He was a “Jack of all trades” and was glad to help anyone he could. But most of all, he loved and cherished his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving companion, Becky Mitchell; two children, Spenser McDonald and her companion, Adam Bashaw of Akwesasne; and John McDonald of Akwesasne; his mother, Rita McDonald of Snye; three grandchildren, Connor McDonald, Channing Morris, and Cansas Morris; a godchild, Rikki McDonald; two sisters, Theresa and Carl Thompson, and Margie McDonald, all of Akwesasne; three brothers, Andy and Ann Marie McDonald, Richard and Gail McDonald, and Theodore McDonald, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his father Wilbert on December 23, 1993; and his brother Francis P. McDonald on May 24, 1993.

Friends may call at the family home, 290 McDonald Road, beginning Wednesday at 6:00 PM until Friday morning at 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to the Mohawk Council Ambulance or the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonfh.com.
