FORT COVINGTON – Hattie A. Bashaw, 58, of 61 Water Street, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Hattie was born October 15, 1958 in Massena, daughter of the Francis F. Cree and the late Catherine David Cree. She was a 1976 graduate of Salmon River High School. She married Kim A. Bashaw on July 1, 1978 at St. Regis Catholic Church.
She was a member of St. Regis Catholic Church. Hattie worked in accounts payable for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. She was a great cook, and enjoyed retail therapy, the casino, traveling and camping. A huge fan of the Buffalo Bills, she was known to plan and organize huge trips and tailgaters for the games, for over 20 years. Most of all, she cherished and loved her time with family and visiting with her grandchildren. She lived by the motto “Be grateful everyday your feet hit the floor!”
Hattie is survived by her husband Kim; her two sons, Aaron and Katherine Bashaw of Howland, OH; and Adam Bashaw and his companion Spenser McDonald of Snye; five grandchildren, Tyler, Gavin, Connor, Channing and Cansas; her father, Francis F. Cree; three sisters, Marie Benedict of Akwesasne; Carla and Dean Point of Cornwall Island; and Hilda Jean Cree of Akwesasne; two brothers, Michael and Aline Cree and Jason Cree, all of Akwesasne; her mother-in-law, Mary Lou Bashaw of Ft. Covington; two sister-in-laws, Cyndia Hanley of Chateaugay; Lisa and Tim Cartier of Bombay; and one brother-in-law, Todd and Jackie Bashaw of Florida; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Catherine on April 24, 1992; four brothers, Allen Cree in infancy in January of 1964; Daniel F. Cree on July 3, 1985; Kevin W. Cree on April 18, 1986; and Leslie P. Cree on June 17, 2012; and her father-in-law, Napoleon Bashaw on April 8, 1993.
Friends may call at the family home, 61 Water Street, Ft. Covington, beginning Monday at 12 noon until 3:00 PM Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 4:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Jerome Pastores celebrating.
