Peter Francis  Callahan

MASSENA – Mr. Peter Francis Callahan, 61, a native of Massena, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home in Greenwood, Arkansas.

Peter was born December 14, 1955 in Malone, New York. The son of the late Chester Francis Callahan and Margaret Theresa (Jameson) Callahan and was a graduate of Massena Central School. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Air Force, where he was in the Police Academy. He honorably served his country until his discharge on May 24, 1976.

After discharge from the Air Force, Peter worked in the airline industry for a time and also did private security work. Most recently, he owned a small business that worked with local General Motors Dealerships with their customer service departments. He was actively involved in various community ventures with his businesses. Pete was a member of the Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4 in Massena and was an avid Star Trek fan, a great movie buff, and could be found with at least one scratch-off ticket in his pocket at any given time.

Peter is survived by his beloved companion and pet, Chet; his siblings, Mary Beth and Donnie Green; Robert and Gloria Callahan; Ann Callahan; Dennis Callahan; Maureen and Keith Benedict; John and Trudy Callahan; Matthew and Deborah Callahan; Arlene Tyler and Jane Henderson; Shirley and Ed Skelly; and Nelson Gomez and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by a brother, George Arthur Callahan.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial with
military honors will follow in St. George’s Cemetery, Burke. His brothers, Robert, Dennis, John, and Matt will serve as their brother’s pallbearers and Shane Leary will be an honorary bearer. A family gathering following at Maureen and Keith Benedict, 2215 County Route 38, Norfolk New York.
