Obituary for Mildred Lucy LaDue Lavine (Davis)

Mildred Lucy LaDue Lavine (Davis)
Mildred L. LaDue Lavine

NORFOLK – Mrs. Mildred L. LaDue Lavine, 92, a longtime resident of High Street, peacefully passed away Friday evening, July 7, 2017 at Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital, Plattsburgh with her family with her. She had been a resident of the Plattsburgh Rehab and Nursing Home for the past 6 years.

Mildred was born July 10, 1924 in Massena, the daughter of the late William and Ida Mae (Corey) Davis and was graduate of Massena High School. She was first married to Alexander LaDue and was blessed with 5 daughters. She later married Robert Lavine, both ending in divorce.

Mildred once worked at the Oval Dish Company in Bombay and at the Potsdam Hospital in the Admitting Department. Her greatest achievement was raising her 5 daughters, providing them with a beautiful love and excellent food. She also was an excellent seamstress, making quilts and crocheting baby blankets and outfits for many local agencies and hospital. She loved to play bingo and cherished the friendships she made while living in Norfolk for over 20 years.

Mildred is survived by her five daughters, Charlotte Guilbert, of Chesapaeke, VA; Shirley Martinelli of Jacksonville, FL; Katherine LaDue of Madrid; Jean and William VanHorn of Broussard, LA; and Brenda Despaw of Norwood; 15 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Dallos of Whitesboro, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 2 granddaughters, Jill Marie Foster in 1966 and Amanda Sue McGee in 1979; 5 sisters, Esther Giles, Margaret Meacham, Gertrude Ann Johnson, Nellie LaBarge, and Elizabeth “Betty” LaFrance; and 7 brothers, James, Leonard, Walter, Earl, Clarence “Kenneth”, Clifford, and Robert Davis.

Calling hours and funeral services will be held privately with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation, to be directed to the Maternity Ward.
