Obituary for Donna Alice Woodcock (Spotswood)

DONNA A. WOODCOCK

NORFOLK – Mrs. Donna Alice (Spotswood) Woodcock, 79, of 21 East High Street, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Highland Nursing Home, Massena.

Donna was born March 12, 1938 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Donald A. and Viola J. (Vert) Spotswood. She was a graduated of Norwood-Norfolk Central School and Comptometer School in Albany. On June 22, 1956, she married Stephen S. Woodcock at the Saratoga Springs Methodist Church. The marriage ended in divorce in May 1977.

Donna was a secretary in the New York State Office of Court Administrators in Ballston Spa for many years before her retirement, when she moved back to Norfolk. Before working in the court system, she was active with the Republican Women’s Club and was a NYS Republican Committee Woman. After moving back to Norfolk, she became very active with the ministry of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Potsdam, where she was involved in many activities and participated in the ministry outreach at the Highland Nursing Home. As a domestic bird lover, she converted the sun porch of her home to a bird sanctuary. She rescued homeless birds, nursing them to back to health and worked hard to find new homes for them. She also had a great love for her aquarium and the fish she was raising.

Donna is survived by her children, Tamorrah Stewart of Massena; Stephanie and Robert Archambo of West Monroe; Stacey Cerola of Kansas; Toni Woodcock-Chase of Clifton Park; and Stephen S. Woodcock, II, of Ballston Spa; her grandchildren, Samantha, David, Melanie, Heather, Jai, Danielle, Russell, Britnie, Courtnie, Tiffani, Stephen III, and Shawna and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Cynthia Frego of Grants Pass, Oregon; and Sarah and Robert Claffey of Norfolk; her longtime companion, Clarence “Bucky” Wray of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Donald Woodcock on September 18, 1997.

Friends may call Monday 2-3:30 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 with Pastor Justin Glover, officiating. Burial will follow the services at Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Brian and Sarah Argo, Instituto de Lengua Espanola, Apdo. 100-2350
