PARISHVILLE - Ruth Ann Barton, 77, a longtime resident of Parishville, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Jefferson County Hospice, with family by her side.

Ruth was born on April 25, 1940 in Massena, daughter of the late James E. Sr. and Martha (Rosenbarker) Bradish and was a graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton School. On July 2, 1960, she married Floyd E. “Sonny” Barton, Jr., at the Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton. Sonny predeceased her on June 7, 1992.

Ruth was a homemaker raising her children and also worked a CNA at Potsdam Nursing Home from 1977-1983. In 1993, she ventured into the restaurant business, opening Ruthie’s Restaurant in Parishville operating for a year before selling it. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Chuch in Parishville and the Parishville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Ruth found great peace and enjoyment while travelling.

She is survived by her children, Lisa and Ray Cooley of Watertown; Nathan and Gwen Barton of Potsdam; and Theresa and Howard Patton of Chaumont; three grandchildren, Erica Leonard, Christopher Marks and Martika Barton; three great grandchildren, Kara Marks, Courtney Leonard and Zelda Marks; her sister, Ilah and Alden Durant of Potsdam; and her brother, Stillman and Cathy Bradish of Ogunquit, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Dibble; and a brother, James Bradish, Jr.

Friends may call at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam on Friday, 12:00–2:30 PM, where a funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM with Rev. Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Parishville.
