Obituary for John Hudson Remington

John Hudson Remington

PARISHVILLE – Mr. John Hudson Remington, 88, of Picketville Road, passed away late Tuesday afternoon, May 22, 2018 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

John was born in Parishville on April 24, 1930, the son of the late George and Lucy Trumble Remington. After graduating form Parishville-Hopkinton School, he entered the US Air Force. He proudly served his country for 4 years with the 805th Air Police Squadron until his honorable discharge on September 5, 1955. On February 19, 1955, he married Shirley Lillian Riches, she predeceased him on December 28, 1975. He later met Resa Parker and they were married on April 14, 1979 in Ogdensburg.

After his discharge from the Air Force and return home, he worked for a time at Potsdam Feed and Coal, before going to Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Mill in Potsdam. He later went to work for the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School, where he retired as the lead custodian and bus driver. John was a 46-year member of the Amber Lodge 395 Free and Accepted Masons in Parishville and was a supporter of the National Rifle Association. John also had a great love for antiques and enjoyed working with stained glass – both making pieces and repairing many other pieces. He cherished the time he was able to spend outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping.

John is survived by his loving wife, Resa; his five sons, Ward (Julie) Remington of Parishville; Brent (Robin) Remington of Parishville; Benjamin (Tabitha) Smith of Winthrop; Glenn (Stacia Dutton) Remington of Parishville; and Nicholas (Suzanne Campbell) Remington of Fulton; 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; his sister, Elizabeth Hawley of Colton; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife and parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Warren, Carl, and Doyle Remington and his sister, Belva Hawley.

Friends may call Friday 4-8:00 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam where members of the Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial ritual at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Garry Giroux and Rev. Scott Daby, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Parishville.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Parishville Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
